Historian J. Blake Perkins talks about his new book, Hillbilly Hellraisers: Federal Power and Populist Defiance in the Ozarks. Perkins will talk about his research on rural defiance in the Ozarks. A book signing with the author to follow.
Perkins’ book explores the root of anti-government sentiment in the Ozarks, looking at the relationship between small farmers, capitalist elites and the federal government from the late 19th century into the 20th.
Perkins is a native of the Arkansas Ozarks and an assistant professor of history at Williams Baptist College. Hillbilly Hellraisers will be released in October 2017 by the University of Illinois Press. The book also includes historical maps of the Ozarks designed by the Missouri State University Libraries’ Maps and GIS Librarian.
