From Sustainable to Store-Bought: A Mexican Family’s Move to Springfield

This film documents the subsistence activities of a family in a rural village in central Mexico whose members continue to grow and prepare their own food in a sustainable way. When some family members immigrated to Springfield, Missouri, their subsistence changed to wage-earning jobs and grocery-store food.  The film shows the contrast between the traditional foodways of the village and the immigrants’ diet in Springfield, and points out environmental and health implications.
