Large programs often face unique advising challenges. Among the questions that these program face, one question repeats. How can advisors effectively meet the needs of a large number of advisees while also maintaining personal relationships with advisees and confidentiality? In this session, we share a case study of one program that has collaboratively redesigned its program advising model to more effectively and continuously reflect on and then respond to student advising needs. The English Education (BSEd) program has developed a hybrid advising model that includes one-on-one and group elements. Program faculty and graduate student advisors will share key elements that have made their hybrid model an effective one in meeting student advising needs. They will also share some unexpected challenges that they've had to address along the way. In sharing their experience, they will invite conversation about a) which elements might be transferred or adapted to meet the needs of other programs' advising challenges, and b) what questions remain that will benefit from ongoing program advising evaluation and reflection.
