J.D. Vance, a former marine, Yale Law School graduate and New York Times bestselling author of “Hillbilly Elegy,” gives a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis – that of white working-class Americans. Tracing his family history, as well as the slow decline of this particular demographic, he tells the true story of what a social, regional and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck. In this incredibly timely talk, Vance sheds light on an often forgotten corner of the country, offering not just a powerful picture of how upward mobility really feels, but also the loss of the modern-day American dream.

Sponsored by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks and MSU's College of Humanities and Public Affairs.
