
Religious liberty has long allowed individuals and groups to live according to the dictates of their consciences. With this liberty, faith communities make important contributions to civil society, particularly in the founding and sustaining of countless hospitals, schools and universities, and social service organizations. As mores and values change, religious liberty conflicts increasingly involve such issues as abortion, gay rights and soon, transgender rights.
