
A bright spot of last year’s presidential race was the excitement generated by our millennial generation for the candidacy of Bernie Sanders. Many pundits applauded the enthusiasm of this segment of the population that historically has not been enthralled with politics. If the educational community chose to cultivate this groundswell of political activism by young people, a resurgence of grassroots democracy, a welcome “shot in the arm” to our political system, might result. What can schools do differently, or better, to encourage young people to engage in government and promote their vision of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness?
