Public Affairs Conference - On mental health

Public Affairs Conference - On mental health
Date and time
10:30 AM - 11:45 AM, April 06, 2017
Description

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 6.9% of adults in the U.S. (16 million people) had at least one major depressive episode in the past year. The National Center for Health Statistics reports that suicide rates have increased nearly 25% over the last 15 years. What accounts for these alarming figures? What public policies are necessary to address this crisis? What are best practices for promoting mental health, and how may mental disorders be better identified and destigmatized? What role should community institutions — government, not-for-profits and private commercial sector — play in suicide prevention and in promoting mental health? How may individual community members be equipped to recognize and report concerns about mental health issues in their homes, classrooms and work places?
