
The Ozarks Celebration Festival Lecture Series continues on Sept. 14 with guest lecturer Ernie Bedell on "Let the Old Man Play: Springfield's African American Music Legends."
Bedell, a Springfield native, grew up in the 60s and 70s. At age 14 and under the mentorship of his 7th grade English teacher, Donald Sharp, he began playing acoustic guitar; at age 15 he switched to bass guitar.
Bedell has played with several bands including K.C. Express, who recorded on the Stax Record label. He has also performed with blues artists Lil' Joe Blue, Johnnie Taylor, Greg Smith and Ernest Johnson.
