Please join us for the opening reception for the exhibit Sharing Knowledge, Showing Technique.
This educational exhibit is the culmination of the best student work from the Citizenship and Service-Learning (CASL) integrated courses ART/MST488 Basic Conservation of Art and Artifacts (Fall 2022) and ART487 Art of Africa (Spring 2023), taught by Dr. Billie Follensbee. As part of their course projects, the students researched and conserved objects on loan from the Art & Design art and artifact collections, from museums and educational institutions in region, and from private collectors.
This reception is sponsored by the Office of Citizenship and Service-Learning, the Museum Studies and Art History & Visual Culture areas in the Department of Art & Design, and Special Collections and Archives. The exhibit will be on display through December 20th.
In addition, Earlene Elliot-Lee, a Museum Studies major and a student with work on display from both of these CASL classes, will present a live demonstration of painting conservation techniques at the exhibit opening reception. Earlene is completing a painting conservation internship on a group of paintings by Howard Garrison this semester for the Christian County Museum.
Special Collections and Archives, a part of the MSU Libraries, supports Dr. Follensbee and her students by providing study space and conservation facilities, as well as developing the current exhibit.
Special Collections and Archives is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Closed on university holidays.) For more information on this exhibit, call (417) 836-5428 or email Archives@missouristate.edu. This event is free and open to the public.
