Visiting Artist Lecture: Selina Trepp - The Problem is the Prompt

Selina Trepp makes art to address problems, both political and personal. Trepp takes a concern - the environment, women’s representation, capitalism, demands on her time - and uses a “make-do” approach to experiment with what’s on hand to demonstrate alternatives.Making-do demands economy and improvisation, a trying-on of fresh perspectives; her ethics form the aesthetics in her work.

Trepp is a Swiss/American artist researching economy and improvisation. She works across media, combining performance, installation, painting and sculpture to create intricate setups that result in photos, drawings and animations.

Trepp has exhibited nationally and internationally, including shows at Andrew Rafacz Gallery, Hyde Park Art Center and DePaul Museum of Art, all in Chicago; Plug Projects in Kansas City; The Front Gallery in New Orleans; Centre Culturel Suisse in Paris; and numerous galleries in Zurich, Switzerland.

In addition to the studio-based work, Trepp is active in the music scene. She performs with a varying cast of collaborators and as one half of Spectralina, her long running audiovisual collaboration with Dan Bitney.
