Presenter: Dr. Shay-Akil McLean
Race/ism was created by European colonizers to seize land, labor and gain control of the means of production. For every capitalist crisis, market disaster and form of resistance that colonizers met from colonized peoples, they created a “new race.” Using a historically grounded analysis of race/ism and Darwinian evolutionary human biology, McLean discusses the role of racist colonial capitalism in creating and reproducing the major health inequities we see in colonized populations.
