Description

Join a cross-disciplinary group of faculty and engage in an active, collaborative, semester-long program about enhancing teaching and learning. FLCs are teams of 8 to 10 faculty and members will engage in frequent seminars and activities that provide learning, development, and community building. Through participation in their community, faculty will build a product or plan in support of enhancing teaching and learning. FLC’s are facilitated by FCTL Faculty Fellows or staff and usually meet 5 times during the semester for a total of 10 contact hours.  Members that successfully complete goals and objectives set by their community will be eligible for a $500 mini grant to extend their learning and implement their chosen project.

The book, Becoming Great Universities: Small Steps for Sustained Excellence (Light & Jegla, 2022) outlines 10 core challenges that are confronting universities. This Faculty Learning Community, led by Dr. Marjorie Shavers and Dr. Nancy Gordon, will introduce the book and focus on one of the challenges often experienced by faculty which is Facilitating Constructive Interactions among Students from Differing Backgrounds and Experiences (pp. 155-177).  The authors of this book advocate that the best universities are those that are focused on enhancing personal relationships and putting students front and center. FLC members will receive a copy of the book and will be encouraged to identify one change or “small step” they can make to facilitate the engagement of students from differing backgrounds and experiences.

Please note that this is a series of sessions and you must register through My Learning Connection to be part of this Faculty Learning Community.
