GGP Seminar: Jonathan Paul Katz - "Planning for Dementia-Friendly Communities"

Jonathan Paul Katz holds a master of community planning degree from the University of Maryland-College Park. His research focus was on planning for disabled and aging communities. Before his studies, he worked for a New York City government agency on accessible communications. He currently works for the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy. This presentation is separate from his employment. 

The presentation abstract is: The population of people living with dementia is growing in the United States, and most of them will live in the community. The built environment and urban systems need many changes to be accommodating for and inclusive of people with dementia. Community planners can play a role in building spaces and services that are inclusive of people with dementia. This presentation will discuss dementia-friendly outreach, transportation, housing, service access, and public space design. It will provide examples of effective dementia-friendly community planning practices.
