Campus Conflict "Deep Dive" Workshop: Communication and Conflict Coaching

Campus Conflict "Deep Dive" Workshop: Communication and Conflict Coaching
Date and time
1:30 PM - 4:30 PM, April 15, 2021
Description

Presented by Dr. Charlene Berquist and Ms. Heather Blades

When colleagues can’t get along, the workplace turns into a battleground. Tensions rise, productivity is impacted, and time and energy are wasted as conflicts escalate. Supervisors may be called upon to “fix” the problem, but often their solutions fail to address the real issues that created the conflict in the first place. But what if there was a way to coach others to help them manage these situations?

This session will help you learn how to coach others through difficult communication challenges and conflict situations. Rather than “fixing” the problem for them, you can employ communication and conflict coaching strategies to assist them in managing their own conflicts, building their communication skills, and achieving their goals.

In this interactive online session we will do the following:

  • Examine why “fixing” other people’s conflicts is rarely effective.
  • Explore how a coaching approach differs from the ways people typically respond to others’ conflict situations.
  • Learn the steps in the communication and conflict coaching process.
  • Investigate the benefits communication and conflict coaching offers.
  • Practice coaching skills that you can put to use immediately to help build others’ communication and conflict management skills.

This Deep Dive Workshop is free for Missouri State faculty and staff, but seats are limited and pre-registration is required. This session is approved for Master Advisor credit.
