
Luis Fernando Restrepo is a University Professor in the Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He is the director of the graduate program in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies and the Spanish Section Head. His teaching and research areas are colonial Latin American literature, literature and human rights, indigenous literatures and Latino education. He chairs the UA committee os Scholars at Risk, an international organization supporting threatened scholars and defending academic freedom. Chancellor for Diversity and Community and was the founding director of La Oficina Latina, and the founding president of the Latino Alumni society. In 2011 he established the Latino Youth Biiteracy Project, a service learning initiative mentoring elementary and middle school Spanish heritage speakers. He has also served in the Arksasas Commission on Closing the Academic Achievement Gap, appointed by Governor Beebe.
