The use of mobile devices for 911 calling, amber alerts and GPS tracking has greatly improved the response time of firefighters, police officers and other first responders. Digital cameras make it easier to identify illegal activities in public areas, from the workplace to our college campuses and beyond. Tracking of severe weather has saved countless lives, but has also created crisis situations when the information was inaccurate. Forensic medicine has forever changed because of DNA technology. How have these changes affected privacy? Given these new technological advances, to what extent are Americans safer and more secure?
