Advising Students of Color: Challenges and Opportunities

Advising Students of Color: Challenges and Opportunities
Date and time
12:30 PM - 1:30 PM, October 23, 2018
Description

Effectively advising students of color at a predominantly white institution (PWI) can be challenging given that many of these students face unique obstacles and experience the university differently than their white peers. However, along with these challenges comes the opportunitiy to help students of color feel that they belong and believe they can excel in the university setting. In this forum, we will discuss some of the challenges faced by students of color, how advisors can help students meet these challenges, and opportunities for creating an environment where all MSU students can thrive.

Presented by Dr. Kyler Sherman-Wilkins, Assistant Professor, Sociology and Anthropology department.
