The Department of Modern and Classical Languages will host its second annual International Culture Fair, a community outreach project designed as a field trip for local elementary school children. Roughly 500 children will get to travel around the world as they visit 12 booths representing individual countries. They will learn about the local heritage and engage in a cultural tradition (like flamenco dancing in Spain, making beaded bracelets in Kenya, playing wooden instruments in Indonesia and weaving on looms in Guatemala).
Your help is needed to make this event a great success. We are looking for people with an interest in world cultures to help chaperone the event, as well as people with knowledge of other alphabets to help children write their names in various languages. If you are interested, please contact Dr. Heidi Backes (hbackes@missouristate.edu) and let her know which time slot(s) you would prefer:
8:30-9:50 a.m.
10-11:20 a.m.
12-1:20 p.m.
1:30-2:50 p.m.
Help us give these children an opportunity to see the world right here in Springfield!
